Into the Forest - Autumn 2

We enjoyed getting outside into our Forest School area and using our school grounds.  So much has inspired us in this topic, especially the work of Andy Goldsworthy.  In maths, we found acute, obtuse and right angles in nature and looked for horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines.

Robin Hood - Autumn 1

We started the year off by learning about Robin Hood and life in Medieval England.  Our visit to Layer Marney Tower helped us to find out about armour, archery, food, building shelters, life in the forest and making clay pots.  We discussed the Crusades and our opinions about religion.

The Bakery - Spring 1

This half term we are investigating bakeries.  We have walked down Connaught Avenue and found out how many shops sell breads and cakes, we have interviewed local people to find out about their favourite types of bread and we have made our own bread.  One of our parents owns a bakery in Frinton so they have come in to talk to us about what life as a baker is like.

Look After Your Planet - Spring 2

Our work this half term has been based on the Charlie and Lola book, Look After Your Planet. We found out about different types of energy and the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy sources.  We had a visit from Dong Energy, who told us all about wind turbines and we spent time during Science Week learning about how to save water and electricity.

Rajasthan and Elephants - Summer 1

Our topic for this half term is all about Rajasthan.  This is a large state in the north west of India.  Each week we will be looking at a different city in Rajasthan:  Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur and Pushkar.

Elephants are very important in India and we will be finding out about how they are looked after, why people decorate them for festivals in India and why they are important.
